Kerasawara Women’s Health Initiative… launching tomorrow!

Those of you that have been following the progress of Backpacker Medics over the years know that we’re extremely proud of the specialised programs we’ve been able to initiate in Kerasawara village. Tomorrow morning, a group of amazing and diverse health professionals will leave Kathmandu, jump into a packed jeep and head on a long journey to remote Eastern Nepal to launch our next major program… The Kerasawara Women’s Health Initiative.OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

The concept behind this program is pretty simple: it is a ‘train the trainer’ model aimed at raising the traditionally poor level of women’s health and education in Nepal.

In the next two weeks, a select group of six local 12002409_518084288351446_6348383827090268945_oKerasawara women will be given training in basic anatomy and physiology, ante-natal, post-natal and obstetric care, gynaecological problems and paediatric first aid. These women will then fill the role of women’s health advocates throughout the area. It’s revolutionary concept for Kerasawara village that we are at once extremely proud of and that we hope will positively change the lives of generations of women!

We would like to IMG_5420wish the following individuals a safe journey to the village, and all the very best for the next two weeks!

Amy Segers, WA
